When you are 60 you don’t really expect things to be unprecedented.
You sort of think that you have had experiences, or your parents had experiences, which they shared with you, that can prepare you for most things. The Great Depression taught us the adage ‘waste not want not’. War taught us ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’.
Drought, bushfires, floods, earthquakes, births, deaths and marriages (even of the same sex). We’ve been through it all and therefore these things to us have a precedent.
Your COVID-19 questions answered by Mamamia’s Claire Murphy. Post continues below.
Then along comes 2020. Unprecedented bushfire season. We’ve been visiting the same holiday spot for over 30 years, and this year, for the first time, we were told we were stupid for going.
“Didn’t you know how bad it was, you idiots?” we heard.
So the 2020 school year starts, and the bushfires are all anyone can talk about.
Then the virus hits the news.
A hint of school closures reminds me that there is a God and he has been listening to me whinging about the disengaged kids I am trying to teach and how I am not sure I have the patience to deal with other people’s rude, disrespectful offspring.

Let the younger substitutes handle this or make the parents take responsibility for their Possible virus Carrying kids. This is not fair, Humane or responsible - Join together and protest- Walk out or call Out!
Exactly right. My husband only said this morning ’where is their association’.
Should the medical staff do this too? How about the workers at energy plants and police and fire services?
Everyone doing what is ‘best’ for themselves is the worst possible attitude in that situation. Lots of the people who are currently unemployed and self isolating would swap places with teachers in a heartbeat.
Morrison is selective with what country he emulates. If it is what he desires he uses that country for an example. He was SLOW reacting in the beginning, that was his first fail. He doesn’t want to close schools even though many countries have. He is only concerned about his precious ECONOMY. The stimulus would have killed him. They never want to spend they just want to work everyone into the ground. The unemployed are just dole pludgers to him, he never acknowledges that there is simply not enough jobs to go around. Well he is going to end up with unemployment on a scale never seen before. Scummo will be having nightmares.
